Urge of the Letter

Tumbling quotes, images, and thoughts related to the making of meaningful marks for a book in progress, The Urge of the Letter: A Sentimental & Natural History of Writing, by Matthew Battles (matthew dot battles at gmail dot com).
Just came across a marvelous Ministry of Type post about Israeli commemorative stamps from 1967 featuring Torah scrolls. Go there to see the marvelous sketches designer (and MoT blogger) Aegur Hallmundur has made of design elements featured in these stamps, including a lovely dotted shin (the Hebrew character, not the shank of the leg). Or check out this Israeli Philatelic Association (of course there’s one) page for pix of the originals.
